Just in time for Veteran’s Day, Facebook is introducing a new resource for military members and veterans to help them continue to build their community, find job opportunities and enhance their digital skills through Facebook. Veterans and active military members use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family. In fact, more than 900,000 people in the US participate in more than 2,000 groups for military, veterans and their spouses on Facebook.

The Military and Veterans Hub will provide online safety tips, resources for finding jobs and digital skills training through a new partnership with SCORE, the nation’s largest network of volunteer expert business mentors. It will also spotlight veteran-owned businesses.

HOW FACEBOOK & SCORE ARE  TEAMING UP TO HELP VETS:

A MENTOR MATCH that connects military members and veterans with a cohort of SCORE’s experienced business mentors who are also US veterans.

A VETERAN-FOCUSED EDUCATIONAL TOOLKIT for launching a business, including steps for developing business concepts, and how to develop a business plan.

VETERAN-FOCUSED WORKSHOPS where SCORE’s veteran mentors are available to help attendees and provide continued guidance through all stages of startup and growth.

CAREERS FOR VETS AT FACEBOOK Facebook is also launching a 12-month career development pilot program for Veterans with a background in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science to help the company solve global challenges. They also offer a Military Skills Translator to help people find Facebook careers relevant to their military experience

SPOKESPERSON:
Payton Iheme Facebook US Public Policy Manager focuses on policy topics related to the Internet, digital economy/small business, counter terrorism, cyber-security, data privacy, and partnerships. As part of that role, she also manages veteran and military policy. Previously, she served as the Senior Policy Advisor for Communication Technology at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.  Payton has experience in the national security sector, public/private partnerships, and with international relations while serving as an active duty officer in the Army’s special operations and humanitarian assistance elements of the Department of Defense.  She holds honor degrees from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in Government Policy from the George Washington University. She currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard.
